March 7, 2012: Weekly Critique Group Meeting - First Lines.
This week we will be discussing the techniques used in creating the first line of a piece of work. How important is the first line? What do you hope to gain with the first line? What is your favorite first line of any novel or short story? The mini-assignment will be to write three different first lines for the same story. The story you have in mind doesn't have to be written yet. The works to be critiqued will be announced closer to the meeting date.
